Watch: Our Kids are More Than

We talked to kids, experts, and parents all over the country to learn about what the current barriers to success were. What we heard the most was that many kids learn to doubt themselves because of the fear of judgment or lack of acceptance. This insight drove us to create our new campaign, More Than. More Than focuses on dismantling labels and promoting self-esteem through STEM-related activities. At FIRST®, we want EVERY kid to believe in themselves and know that they are More Than the stereotypes or “boxes” society has placed them in. Together, we can inspire kids everywhere to take pride in being exactly who they are. Watch our PSA

Introducing our More Than Campaign

This week, we announced the launch of More Than, a campaign to dismantle labels for young people and promote self-discovery through STEM. The campaign launched with a new, emotive public service announcement (PSA) and a full-page ad in the New York Times calling for adults to encourage the young people in their life to engage in new opportunities that might seem outside their comfort zone. The More Than campaign is proudly supported by Bosch, Qualcomm Incorporated, and Raytheon Technologies.

FIRST® CEO: A teacher told me I wasn’t cut out for STEM. For too long, I believed her.

Chris Moore, CEO of FIRST, experienced the power and influence the words of authority figures have on children when a teacher in middle school discouraged him from exploring his potential in STEM and instead convinced him that he lacked the ability to succeed in these subjects. On Chalkbeat.org, he shared how that discouragement was the start of a 25-year journey of fighting for inclusion and representation in and beyond STEM.
