FIRST® Announces 2022-2023 Youth Robotics Season

Qualcomm Incorporated, a FIRST® Strategic Partner and longtime supporter of FIRST, returns as Season Presenting Sponsor of our 2022-2023 energy-themed season, FIRST ENERGIZE presented by Qualcomm. Team and Class Pack registration via the FIRST Dashboard opens tomorrow, May 19. This upcoming season:

  • FIRST® LEGO® League will explore where energy comes from and how it is distributed, stored, and used to innovate for a better future in SUPERPOWEREDSM (Season Materials Release: August 2)
  • FIRST® Tech Challenge will test the limits of performance, efficiency, and endurance to power innovations forward in POWERPLAYSM presented by Raytheon Technologies. (Season Kickoff: September 10)
  • FIRST® Robotics Competition unlocks the power of engineering to transform renewable energy and power a better future in CHARGED UPSM presented by Haas. (Season Kickoff: January 7, 2023)

Save the Dates: 2023 & 2024 FIRST Championship

As part of our official announcement today of our 2022-2023 season, we shared dates for the 2023 and 2024 FIRST Championship: The FIRST community will again come together for a single season-culminating FIRST Championship in Houston on April 19-22, 2023, and April 17-20, 2024.

Congratulations, 2022 FIRST® LEGO® League Global Innovation Award Finalists

Last season, FIRST LEGO League teams from more than 110 countries identified a problem related to improving the transportation journey of products. We are proud to announce the twenty inspiring teams selected for their outstanding solutions who will vie for the top honor of the 2022 FIRST LEGO League Global Innovation Award presented by Qualcomm Incorporated, culminating in a live award show on FIRSTtv, June 23, with a pre-show starting at 5:30 p.m. ET.

SIA, FIRST Announce Partnership to Strengthen U.S. STEM Workforce

We are proud to announce our partnership with The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) to enhance STEM education and interest among students and bolster workforce development. Together, SIA and FIRST will collaborate on equipping PreK-12 students with the skills necessary to pursue a career in science and technology, facilitating mentorship programs that improve the workforce talent pipeline for the semiconductor industry, and addressing public policy matters affecting STEM education and workforce development in the U.S.

Build the Future Spotlight: Thunder Down Under

FIRST Robotics Competition Team 3132 “Thunder Down Under” from Sydney, Australia, recently developed Training Unleashed, a positive reinforcement training system for dogs that will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of service dog training to make them more accessible to people who need them. With Disney and Lucasfilm, we’re sharing their story as part of our Build the Future powered by Star Wars: Force for Change initiative.
