We know the end of the year is right around the corner and there is so much to wrap up. Our department has pulled together some great resources for students and teachers alike to continue their learning!
Coding Simulator
Looking to get your students programming? There are two free simulators in which your students can learn and improve their coding skills regardless of a physical robot. Each one offers a free platform for beginners to start programming without the cost of real robots or the risks of damaging equipment.
FTC Sim provides the opportunity for students to compete with peers in real-time FIRST®Tech Challenge puzzles solving challenges through a guided experience, tons of support, and free training and webinars.
Virtual Robot Simulator is a simple, easy-to-use platform where students can program and test their robot code without the physical hardware.
Tech Tips: Laptop Requirements
The predominant hardware platform used in FIRST Tech Challenge is the REV Control Hub and REV Driver Hub. These platforms have unique operating systems and application requirements, though it is possible to perform most of the basic functions with most hardware platforms (albeit with more manual steps).
Students in FIRST Tech Challenge use computers for two basic purposes – software development and CAD – and their preference for these two uses shapes the required hardware.
Did you know that there are FIRST®Tech Challenge events happening all over the world right now? While you might be getting started with your implementation and building foundational skills, you can check out what individual teams in your area are up to. Consider looking for a local event to attend to get some inspiration!
