How FIRST® Changed These Teens’ Lives

After joining FIRST® Robotics Competition Team 1868, Space Cookies, without any robotics experience, Natalie Holm and Paige Yun recently competed in the 2023 FIRST® Championship presented by BAE Systems, each playing pivotal roles in the building and programming of Space Cookies’ dishwasher-sized robot. “I had this expectation that you had to have a certain level of [STEM, or science, technology, engineering and math] experience,” Paige told Teen Vogue. “But seeing the support and the community of the veterans and the older girls willing to spend their free time teaching new girls anything from writing grant applications to CAD to programming the robot, I found that support system really inspiring.”
