How FIRST® helps families build the next wave of innovators

Getting involved with FIRST®, whether it be as a team mentor or volunteering at a FIRST event, can be a great way to spend meaningful time with your family.

Through our global network of adult volunteers, FIRST helps students gain the skills and confidence to forge their own paths in STEM. Parents' hands-on involvement ensures that students have the resources to excel, creating a community atmosphere where everyone is invested in the team's success.

#PeopleofSTEAM: Meet Desert WAVE

Desert WAVE (Women in Autonomous Vehicle Engineering) is a collegiate robotics team made up of FIRST alumni. Based out of Chandler, Arizona, the team recently won first place in the International RoboSub Competition.

Thanks to their dedication and passion for STEAM, these Arizona State University students went from participating in FIRST as middle school and high school students, to becoming the first all-women robotics team to win first place in this prestigious competition.

To win the International RoboSub Competition, the students, as well as other competing teams, had to create robotic submarines, known as Autonomous Underwater Vehicles.
