Greetings 2019 FIRST® Championship Teams:

We are looking forward to seeing all of you at FIRST Championship next month!  We will be emailing you every Thursday from here on out with important updates and reminders regarding the Championship event.

To start, we encourage you to visit the 2019 FIRST Championship website for important event details. This website is updated often, so check back periodically for new posts. We also recommend that teams use the FIRST Championship app to stay up to date with Championship specific information.

Please keep the following points in mind as you plan your visit to Houston or Detroit.

Pre-ordering lunch? If you would like to pre-order lunch for your team during the FIRST Championship, please visit our Houston and Detroit Event Guides.  You can locate the lunch pre-order forms under the “Food” section.

Attendee Registration: Make sure to pre-register your team members ahead of time, so that you won’t have to wait on site. All attendees must be badged for the FIRST Championship. Pre-registration makes the check-in and badging process easier for you and shortens your wait time in line. A shorter wait time means more time for your team to enjoy the event! Attendee registration will remain open through the week of the event.

Reference the Attend section of the website for more information and to pre-register.

In addition to badging, please book your hotel reservations for Houston or Detroit as soon as possible. When you book your housing with FIRST, your team:
  • Receives guaranteed low rates at FIRST-reviewed hotels.
  • Stays close to the venue and other teams.
  • Enjoys convenient FIRST-contracted amenities at most hotels including complimentary parking, Wi-Fi, and breakfast.
  • Gets reservation protection and assistance before, during, and after your stay if any unexpected challenges occur.
  • Gains flexibility to make booking adjustments and pay later.
  • Receives exclusive FIRST welcome bag at on-site registration.
  • Gets team entry into the 2019 Stay with FIRST Sweepstakes.
Additional FIRST Championship travel discounts for Houston and Detroit include airline travel, car rental, and ground transportation for both the Houston Metro and Detroit People Mover.

Chairman's Award Interview Sign-ups: Nominated teams can sign up for the Chairman's Award interview slots at the Hall of Fame booth on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.:

  • Houston: April 17
  • Detroit: April 24
Detroit Only! Welcome Reception for International Teams – Tuesday April 23, 2019
If your team is coming to Detroit, come early and attend the “STEM Space Jam.” Interact with FIRST Robotics Competition teams from the local area and check out robotics demonstrations and hands-on-activities. RSVP here.
  • Tuesday, April 23, 2019 | 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.
  • Portside Ball Room | Room 260 | Cobo Center
Shipping your Robot to Championship: All competing teams MUST ship their robot to the Championship event using the FedEx donation, except for teams attending FIRST Championship in Detroit that are participating in the “You Bring It” pilot.

Teams outside of the pilot who qualify at Regional Events will receive electronic shipping documents via email. All teams should make sure to keep an eye out for communication from frclogistics@firstinspires.org concerning shipping your robot. More information about the shipping process, as well as a crate construction guide, can be found on the Robot Transportation page.

Teams that have received their shipping documents via email and have no future events MUST ship their robots right away to avoid congesting the drayage. Please note that our process is in place to ensure that your robot gets to the FIRST Championship in time to compete.

Student Ambassador Opportunities
Are you a FIRST participant attending the FIRST Championship? Consider becoming a Student Ambassador! This is a great opportunity to spend quality time with sponsors and other special guests of FIRST.
As part of the FIRST Championship, we ask FIRST participants to assist us in providing fun and exciting tours to our generous sponsors and other special guests. We know our students are our best tour guides, and our guests would love to meet you! Volunteer to be a Student Ambassador at the FIRST Championship this year and show our guests what FIRST is all about.
