Hi Friend,

WHAT EVERYONE’S TALKING ABOUT

Mac users and the EV3
The current version of the EV3 Lab software is not compatible with the upcoming update to macOS, called Catalina. LEGO® Education is therefore introducing a brand-new EV3 app in November 2019, called LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3 Classroom. Based on the SPIKE™ app, EV3 Classroom will feature a coding language based on Scratch that we are confident will unleash the full potential of EV3 in the FIRST LEGO League program. The first release of EV3 Classroom will be in US English, followed by the other 15 EV3 languages in spring 2020.

To continue to enjoy an uninterrupted EV3 experience and to avoid losing your programs, we strongly recommend that you do not update to Catalina until the end of the FIRST LEGO League season in July 2020. If you have already updated to the new OS, please contact Technical Consumer Service at education.LEGO.com/en-us/support to discuss how we can help you during this transition period.

For further questions and support, we encourage you to reach out to Technical Consumer Service using the link above.

Stories of Confidence
LEGO Education has launched a social media project called Stories of Confidence (#LEGOconfidence). These stories are meant to inspire others and further the discussion about the relationship between confidence, learning, and LEGO. For example, it can be stories you’ve witnessed in a classroom, school or at home, stories you’ve experienced with your own children, stories from your childhood, or stories about gaining confidence as a teacher or coach.

We’re asking our friends to share their stories on social media by tagging LEGO Education and using #LEGOconfidence. For inspiration, see an example here: http://bit.ly/2kv3aQG

Are your lead coaches screened?
FIRST® requires teams to have two screened lead coaches to be eligible to register for official FIRST events. Don’t delay and risk your team missing out on the fun!

To order your background screening visit the www.firstinspires.org website to log in to your FIRST Dashboard; select the white triangle next to “Hello, (your name)” in the upper right-hand corner, and select Youth Protection Screening from the list.  Ordering takes less than five minutes, your Social Security Number is not required, and the cost is covered by FIRST. For more information, including step-by-step guides, please visit the Youth Protection Policy page. If you have questions or need assistance, please send an email to safetyfirst@firstinspires.org.

CELEBRATION AND SHOUT OUTS

 Shout out 9.06.19
Team 44596, the Superbots from Fresno, California, USA kicked off their season by checking out one of their team member’s home construction sites. During the field trip, the kids got to see home builds, ask questions, and learn about small scale versus large scale.

MLB Pitcher Trevor Bauer recently joined our #STEMsquad and has pledged to donate $10 per strikeout from his entire season. Thank you, Trevor!
