Project-based, hands-on FIRST programs introduce students to engineering and coding in an engaging, inclusive, and creative classroom or after-school learning environment where students work collaboratively to solve an annual robotics challenge. Boosted by a million-strong global community of students, mentors, educators, volunteers, sponsors, and alumni in 110 countries, our PreK-12 programs are designed to inspire innovation and help young people build a better future.

FIRST® LEGO® League introduces STEM to children through fun, exciting hands-on learning. Participants gain real-world problem-solving experience through a guided, global robotics program, helping today’s students and teachers build a better future together. FIRST LEGO League’s three age-appropriate divisions inspire youth to experiment and grow their critical thinking, coding, and design skills through hands-on STEM learning and robotics centered around a yearly theme.
FIRST® Tech Challenge encourages teams to design, build, program, and engage in thrilling robotics competitions. Guided by adult coaches and mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles, while realizing the value of innovation and teamwork. The robot kit is reusable from year-to-year and can be coded using a variety of programming languages. Students are encouraged to create team brands and be an ambassador for FIRST and STEM in their communities.
Under strict rules, with limited time and resources, FIRST® Robotics Competition teams use sophisticated technology to build and program industrial-sized robots to play a themed field game in an action-packed alliance format. It’s as close to real-world engineering as a student can get. Each team develops a brand, raises funds to meet its goals, and works to promote STEM in the local community.
