Hello Team !

We are getting closer to our event. Hopefully by now you have booked flights, hotels, and planned on how you get around the city. Reminder: Make sure to submit all individual names of those who plan on attending through our Experient portal. Today, we wanted to cover:
  • Load-In
  • Inspection and Judging
  • Load-Out
  • Maps
  • Pits
  • Transportation

Load-In
Early Bird Check-In is available on Tuesday between 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. During this time, you and your team will be able to drop off your pit displays and team tools in your assigned pit. You and your team may choose to begin set-up, but absolutely no robot practice is allowed.

Upon your arrival, you will be given your Pit Assignment.

During load-in, your team is still expected to be wearing closed-toed shoes and safety glasses. You should not be working on your robot during early bird check-in, nor planning on any robot practice. This is an option for teams to get their pits set up for the competition days ahead.

Day of Check-In: Your team must be checked-in by 7:30 a.m. Plan your travel accordingly. Even if your inspection/judge interview time may be later in the morning, having all teams present is essential. Our volunteers strive to work efficiently and having teams arrive late places everyone (teams included) behind schedule.

Inspection and Judging
Robot Inspection will be held in your team Pit area. You will be assigned a time ahead of schedule and your team and robot are expected to be present at your Pit during that time. Our Volunteer Robot Inspectors will come to your pit.

Field Inspection will be held on the competition field. Although we have Queuers who will remind you to queue for your inspection time, please arrive at your assigned time. To help both inspection process, please print the Robot/Field Self-Inspection Checklist: https://www.firstinspires.org/resource-library/ftc/game-and-season-info

Judging times are assigned ahead of time. You will receive a separate email with your assigned time. The judging rooms are located outside the hall on the second floor of the Cobo Center. Please be advised, the robot and 1 team member will need to use the elevator to get to your assigned judging appointment (the rest of the team will need to use the escalator to arrive to your appointment).  Please plan ahead and allow for enough time to make this trip as a team.  We will have Queuers to help remind you of your times, but it is up to the team to arrive on time to their judging. To help prepare, check out our Team Judging Self-Reflection sheet.

Load-Out
Load-Out occurs the Saturday of World Championship. After our Elimination rounds have ended, we will have our Award Ceremony on our Competition Field. Our Finals will be held at Ford Field - Detroit. Between the FIRST® Tech Challenge Judged Award Ceremony and the FIRST® Closing Ceremony and Finals matches, teams are expected to breakdown their Pits and load-out. Teams will not be allowed back into the venue after the Closing Ceremony.

Maps
All maps and venue information can be found here.  Remember to check back often for the most updated information!

Pits
Teams are guaranteed one pit space at World Championship that will not exceed 10 x 10 x 10 feet (3.05m x 3.05m x 3.05m). One table and one source of power will be provided. NO CHAIRS ARE PROVIDED. If you or any members/guests of your team won't be comfortable standing on concrete for long periods of time, please plan on bringing your own chairs.

Your team has a 10-foot (3.05m) height limit. FIRST reserves the right to request that your team take down any decorations that exceed this height limit. The pit is 10 x 10 foot (3.05m x 3.05m) in width and length. Teams are not allowed to exceed this limit. All walkways should be clear and teams should be respectful of the space of their Pit neighbors.

SAFTEY GLASSES ARE REQUIRED BY EVERYONE IN THE PITS. You will be asked by staff and volunteers to wear your glasses at all times. Please be respectful of this requirement and help create a safe environment for everyone. Power tools are allowed in the Pits, and wearing your safety glasses is key to keeping your team safe.

Personal, appropriate, quiet music is allowed in your pit. However, FIRST reserves the right to tell teams to turn it down or off. We need to ensure that your fellow competitors can hear important announcements. No special announcements (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.) are made during this event.

There is limited Wi-Fi in in the venue and no hot spots are allowed anywhere near or around the venue. If you have any issues in the Pit, go to Pit Admin and chat with our Pit Admin Manager.

Transportation within the City
As a reminder, no transportation is provided by FIRST. Teams should coordinate their travel plans in the city before arriving. This may be renting car, or navigating the local public transportation. Should you choose to drive, please expect to pay for parking each day near each venue, and remember that it is on a first come first serve basis. Many hotels also have an additional fee for parking overnight.
