Your team is formally invited to the FIRST® Tech Challenge World Championship Detroit. Alongside 127 other teams from around the world, you are about to embark on an exciting 4-day event that will stay with you for years to come. Your season has been filled with learning, teamwork, and personal growth for each member of your team. FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship will provide an even larger opportunity for celebration with all FIRST® programs. Here at FIRST HQ, we want to recognize the hard work your team has committed to in order to reach this level. Congratulations!
Starting with this email, you will be receiving a series of communications that will include important dates, checklists, and reminders of what to expect. Here’s what in this first email:

Pay and Register for FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship Detroit
In order to guarantee your spot for the
FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship
Detroit you must log into the
www.firstinspires.org website, navigate to the "Team Events" area. From there, pay the $1000 registration fee. The payment deadline is
4/4/2018. If your team has questions or concerns regarding this fee, please
send us an email as soon as possible.
Upon payment you will receive a separate email to register for a badge for each team member, family member, mentor, etc. who will be attending the event. Each attendee is required to have a badge. By registering before your arrival, you will avoid long lines and help mitigate wait times. 40,000 people will be attending the event and pre-badging will get you to where you need to go faster. We also use this list to create Certificates of Participation. Please ensure everything is spelled correctly as will work from the names you provide.

Hotel Accommodations
In addition to badging, the follow-up email will serve as the portal through which your team can make hotel reservations. Please make your reservations ASAP. Please create an account based on your program (FIRST Tech Challenge) and team number. The hotels you will be presented with will be based on being a FIRST Tech Challenge team and will be as close to the venue as possible.
Airport Details
We recommend travel into Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) no later than 4/24/2018. We have an early bird Check-In Tuesday afternoon where your team may receive their team packets and badges, drop-off your team's pit supplies, and set-up your pits. We encourage teams to avoid the crowds and take advantage of this extra time. No robot practice is allowed at this time in the venue.
Teams need to be checked-in no later than Wednesday, 4/25/2018 by 7:30 a.m. Please arrange your travel plans so that they align with this expectation.
Transportation within the City
The 2017-2018
FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship
Detroit will be held in the Cobo Center and Ford Field. For details, maps and up to date information for planning your trip check out the
FIRST Championship Detroit Webpage here. Please note, no transportation is provided to and from the airport, nor to and from the venue. Teams are expected to coordinate their travel plans appropriately.
Parking is located near each venue; however, it is on a first come first serve basis; and teams should expect to pay for parking each day. We encourage that teams look into local transportation options to save on cost.
Save the date: Team Orientation
FIRST Tech Challenge will be holding an online orientation for Worlds on April 11 at 8 p.m. EST. Save the date and join us as we take you through the venue, schedule, and expectations for teams. You will be able to ask questions to our main organizers as we work to help you and your team feel more prepared for the big day. Registration to follow separately.
