Alumni Patches

Alumni patches will be available at the Volunteer Recognition table at the entrance to Volunteer Central on Level 3 of the Cobo Center.

Attire

  • Attire worn by volunteers should be comfortable and volunteer roles should be easily done in attire.
  • Attire should be clean and appropriate.
  • Attire should reflect Gracious Professionalism, please take pride in what you wear.

FIRST Ceremonies

Welcome Party in the Park
Volunteers are welcome at the Special Invited Guests area at Ford Field on Level 3.

FIRST Championship Closing Celebration
Seating is first come first serve. There will be a volunteer section, info to come.

Customer Service Training

Teams and any Championship attendees are customers. Treat them all with Gracious Professionalism. Please read the Customer Service Training before the event.

Early Entrance for Volunteers

The main entrance by Registration on Level 2 at the Cobo Center will be open early for volunteers at 5:30 AM.

Feedback Sessions

Volunteer Feedback Sessions in the Volunteer Café, Room 310A&B: Grab your breakfast or lunch and sit with us to chat about the volunteer experience.

Focus Groups

Please join us for a volunteer focus group to share your ideas and suggestions on the FIRST volunteer experience. We welcome your feedback and look forward to learning new ways we can improve and enhance your participation in FIRST. Thank you to all our hard-working and dedicated volunteers.

Location: Volunteer Lounge, Room 312A&B, in Volunteer Central

  • Apr. 25th 7:00 – 8:00 PM
  • Apr. 26th 3:30 – 4:30 PM

Incidents and Emergency Reporting

In case of an incident which should be reported (medical or non-medical), go to Pit Admin.

  • Incident report forms are located at the Pit Admin locations.
  • Non-medical incidents can include any type of conflict or inappropriate behavior that you think HQ should be aware of.

In case of an emergency, please evacuate with the teams and guests!

Information Desk

There is an information desk located next to Registration on Level 2 that will be able to answer volunteer, event, and city questions.

Parking

  • Volunteers may use the Cobo Rooftop Parking. To enter use the circular ramp located between 2nd and 3rd
  • Your Volunteer Coordinator will send you a parking pass. Print it and please make sure it is visible on your car’s dashboard.
  • Limited parking is free and first come, first served.
  • You may park in any available open spot.
  • There is no overnight parking.

Pit Administration

For program-specific questions, the Pit Admins located in each of the four program areas should be able to answer your questions for their program.

Registration

Volunteers must go to volunteer registration on Level 2 to get their Experient name badge when they first arrive at the event.

Volunteers who were not assigned roles before the event can sign up as walk-on volunteers at Volunteer Registration. There will be an information booth near Volunteer Registration that can answer general volunteer questions throughout the event.

Experient Name Badging

If you registered with Experient before arriving:

  • Print your personalized Barcode and bring to Championship
  • Bring Photo ID 
  • Scan Barcode and Experient will ready your badge on-site

If you did not register with Experient before arriving:

  • Bring Photo ID
  • If possible, print your assignment email
  • Register (confirm your information) with Experient on site

Rules Inside All Venues

  • Please follow the Safety Guidelines
  • Please be sure to have another responsible adult watch any children in your care. You are not allowed to volunteer while taking care of a child.
  • Please limit phone use to break times.

Showcase

Showcase Reception, Friday, April 27th at 5:30 – 6:45 PM at the Innovation Faire in the Ballroom South Pre-function area (Level 2).

Showcase Event, Friday, April 27th at 7:00 – 8:00 PM at the Grand Riverview Ballroom A (Level 2).

  • All volunteers are invited.
  • Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served during the reception.
  • See famous faces of FIRST & other inspiring speakers!
  • Volunteers assigned before the event will receive an email to RSVP to Showcase.

Tiara Friday

Most volunteers wear tiaras on Friday. Bring one or make your own at the VISTA booth in the Innovation Faire.

Menu

The menu for the Volunteer Café will be posted here by 04/17. The menu will also be posted in the volunteer section of the Championship App, on the volunteer page of the FIRST Championship website, and onsite outside the café.

Dietary Needs Process

  • Register dietary preferences in the Experient event registration system.
  • Double check which type of meals you requested.
  • Badges will be marked for special dietary needs.
    • Check in with Volunteer Central Management if you have a need.
  • Menus will be posted onsite the previous morning.
